Driving school scheduling software, picked for schools that sell lesson packages

If you sell lesson packages, pick Bookeo. It costs $39.95 per month and covers up to 20 teachers and rooms.

If you have five or more staff and want a tool built only for driving schools, pick Drive Scout. It costs $250 a month to start. If you only need a free calendar, start with Setmore or Picktime.

Learners, and quite often their parents, want to book lessons at 10 p.m. without phoning the office. Instructors want a calendar they can trust, with no double bookings and no surprise pickups.

The hours add up fast, too. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notes that many states ask parents to certify a set amount of supervised practice, usually 40 to 50 hours, before a teen moves to an intermediate license.

Every one of those lessons a school sells has to be booked, paid for, reminded about, and sometimes moved.

We compared seven platforms. Six are general booking tools that schools set up for lessons, and one is built only for driving schools.

What a driving school needs from booking software

  • Lesson packages. The booking software for driving schools should take one credit off each time a lesson is booked and stop the bundle when it expires.

  • Auto billing. Memberships and payment plans should charge a saved card on a schedule.

  • Instructor and car booking. The instructor and the car should be booked into the same slot, so neither is booked twice.

  • Learner self-service. Learners should reschedule or cancel online, inside a window the school sets.

  • No commission booking. Some vendors charge a subscription and take no percentage of each lesson sold. Card fees from Stripe, Square, or PayPal still apply.

Two other rules affect which tool fits. Package size depends on your state, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety lists current best practices for licensing as a minimum permit age of 16 and at least 70 supervised practice hours.

That is a lot of credits to track by hand, and it is the main reason we put package tracking near the top of our driving school software checklist.

Schools that train truck drivers have a different paperwork load.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's entry-level driver training rules apply to people seeking a Class A or Class B CDL for the first time, and they are not retroactive for anyone issued a CDL before February 7, 2022.

None of the seven tools below file that training record for you, so a CDL school should plan to handle that separately.

How we compared them

Prices and features come from each vendor's own pricing and feature pages, checked in October 2026. Ratings come from Capterra in the same month.

A feature only counts here if the vendor's page shows it. Mindbody, Vagaro, and Calendly are left out. Mindbody and Vagaro focus on fitness studios and salons.

Calendly is a meeting scheduler with no package or resource features.

The 7 platforms, ranked

1. Bookeo

Best for: solo instructors and small and midsize schools that want prepaid lesson packages, memberships, and no commission on online payments.

Bookeo is online booking software, and driving schools run it on its Classes & Courses product. Students see live availability, pick their instructor, and book and pay from a phone.

Double booking is blocked across instructors, vehicles, and lesson types, and package credits come off automatically.

It also handles memberships, deposits through Stripe, Square or PayPal, and email and text reminders.

Pricing: The Standard plan costs $39.95 USD per month. It includes 20 teachers and rooms, 20 staff logins, and 1,000 bookings a month.

High costs $79.95 and covers 2,000 bookings. X-Large costs $119.95 and covers 3,000 bookings. The trial lasts 30 days, with no credit card. Bookeo takes no commission on payments.

Rating: 4.3 out of 5 on Capterra (103 reviews).

Where it falls short: Each plan caps monthly bookings and the number of teachers and rooms. Text reminders use SMS credits bought separately, starting at $0.09 per credit.

The driving school page does not mention vehicle maintenance records or state certificate paperwork.

2. Drive Scout

Best for: established schools with five or more staff that want a system built only for driver training.

Drive Scout is dedicated driving school scheduling software. The office manages instructors and vehicles in one place, and the system blocks double bookings of either.

Students use it at no charge, and they and their parents can read lesson feedback. Students are told when a lesson is cancelled at the last minute.

Pricing: Drive Scout costs $50 for each user, each month, with a minimum of five users. Five users cost $250 a month, so that is where the bill starts.

Semiannual and annual billing are discounted, but the page does not give the percentage. There are no contracts, according to the pricing page.

Rating: 5.0 out of 5 on Capterra, from a single review, which is too thin to lean on.

Where it falls short: A solo instructor or a school of two people. The minimum of five users makes it the most expensive starting point on this list.

3. Acuity Scheduling

Best for: an instructor whose open hours change every week and who wants close control over them.

Acuity Scheduling is a general appointment booking tool from Squarespace. A learner chooses a lesson type, sees open times, and pays during booking.

Each instructor gets their own calendar. Memberships, packages, gift certificates, and text reminders start on Standard, which has up to 6 calendars. Premium has up to 36.

Pricing: Starter costs $20 per month for one calendar. Standard costs $34 and Premium costs $69 when you pay month to month. Pay for the whole year, and the three plans cost $16, $27, and $55 a month.

Rating: 4.8 out of 5 on Capterra (5,771 reviews).

Where it falls short: Starter has no packages and no text reminders, and the trial lasts only 7 days, which is too brief to test a full week of lessons.

4. Square Appointments

Best for: schools that already use a Square card reader for in-person payments.

Learners book online and pay into the same Square account the office uses at the counter. Unlimited staff calendars and appointment reminders by text and email come on every plan, including the free one.

Bookable cars through resource management start on Premium, and packages are listed among its features.

Pricing: Free costs $0 per location, Plus costs $49 per month per location, and Premium costs $149 per month per location.

Online card payments cost 3.3% plus 30 cents on Free and 2.9% plus 30 cents on the paid plans.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 on Capterra (263 reviews).

Where it falls short: Payments run through Square, and pricing is per location, so a school with three branches pays three times.

5. SimplyBook.me

Best for: small schools that want a free start and are happy to switch features on one at a time.

SimplyBook.me gives you a booking website, then you add extras called “custom features,” such as packages and memberships. Each plan limits how many extras you can turn on and how many bookings you can take a month.

Payments, deposits, and tips start on Basic.

Pricing: Free covers 50 bookings a month, one provider, and one custom feature. Basic costs $13.90 per month for 100 bookings and 3 custom features. Standard costs $29.90 for 500 bookings and 8 custom features.

Premium costs $59.90 for 2,000 bookings and unlimited custom features. The trial lasts 14 days.

Rating: 4.6 out of 5 on Capterra (1,292 reviews).

Where it falls short: Four instructors can pass 100 bookings in a month, and the custom feature limit forces a choice between packages, memberships, and other extras.

6. Setmore

Best for: a solo instructor, or two or three instructors, who mainly need a free calendar that learners can book.

Setmore is a simple appointment scheduler and the lightest option on this list. You list your lesson types, share a booking page, and take payments.

The free plan allows up to four users and sends email reminders. Text reminders, recurring appointments, and two-way calendar sync need Pro.

Pricing: Free for up to four users. Pro costs $5 per user each month when you pay for the whole year.

Rating: 4.6 out of 5 on Capterra (960 reviews).

Where it falls short: The pricing page does not mention prepaid packages, so it is a weak fit for schools that sell lessons in bundles.

7. Picktime

Best for: a very small school that wants to treat each car as a bookable resource without paying much.

Picktime works as driving school software when you set up instructors as users and cars as resources. Even the free plan includes three users, three resources, two locations, and unlimited appointments.

Text reminders and payments through PayPal, Stripe, or Square start on Starter.

Pricing: Free costs nothing. Starter is listed at $3 per user, each month, when you pay for the whole year. The page shows inconsistent figures for Pro and for monthly billing, so confirm the price at checkout.

Rating: 4.8 out of 5 on Capterra (58 reviews).

Where it falls short: Class packs appear only on Pro and are marked “coming soon,” and the free plan takes payments through PayPal only.

Pricing by school size

Driving school software is priced three ways: a flat plan sized by bookings, a price for each user, or a price for each location.

A solo instructor can start free on Setmore, Square Appointments, SimplyBook.me, or Picktime.

Each free plan leaves something out. Setmore keeps text reminders for Pro, Picktime takes only PayPal, and SimplyBook.me stops at 50 bookings a month.

Ten instructors change the sums.

Drive Scout costs $50 for each user, each month. For 10 users, that is $500 a month.

The $39.95 flat plan in entry 1 holds up to 20 teachers and rooms while the school stays under 1,000 bookings a month. Per-user apps such as Setmore and Picktime stay cheap at that size, but they lack package tracking.

Acuity Scheduling Starter costs $20 per month-to-month and $16 when you pay for the whole year. The Annual vs Monthly Calculator shows when the yearly price pays off.

Schools with several branches should ask how branches are set up. Square charges for each location, and some vendors ask franchise schools to contact their team.

Lesson packages, memberships and auto billing

If most of your revenue comes from bundles of ten lessons, the shortlist shrinks.

Bookeo, Acuity Scheduling (Standard and up) and SimplyBook.me (as custom features) all sell packages and memberships. Square Appointments lists packages among its features.

Setmore and Picktime do not offer them today.

Set the expiry rule before you sell the first pack, and let the software enforce it, not your office manager.

Switching systems without losing unused lessons

Names, emails, and phone numbers move easily because nearly every tool imports a spreadsheet. Unused credits are the hard part. Follow this order:

  1. Export each learner with their remaining credits and expiry date.

  2. Rebuild each package type in the new system, inside a free plan or trial.

  3. Add the remaining credits learner by learner, or ask the new vendor to load them in bulk.

  4. Run both systems for two weeks, taking new bookings only in the new one.

  5. Stop billing in the old system on the day it starts in the new one, so no family is charged twice.

A 30 day trial or SimplyBook.me’s 14 days is enough for step 2. Acuity’s 7 days is tight.

Put both prices and the cost of rebuilding your packages into the Switch and Save Calculator to see how long the move takes to pay for itself.

How to choose

Start with how you sell lessons. A school that sells one lesson at a time can use almost anything here. Bundles, deposits, and memberships mean you need package tracking, expiry dates, and reminders in the same place.

Size comes next. When five or more people need logins and car clashes are a daily problem, a system built only for driving schools, such as Drive Scout, earns its higher price. Below that, a flat plan usually costs less than paying per person.

For independent instructors and growing schools that want driving school booking software with prepaid lesson packages, a choice of instructor at checkout and email or text reminders, Bookeo offers its Classes & Courses Standard plan at $39.95 per month, with no commission on payments and a 30-day free trial.

FAQs

Can learners reschedule or cancel driving lessons online?

On most of them, yes. Bookeo, Acuity Scheduling, Square Appointments and SimplyBook.me let the learner change a booking online, and the school decides how late a change is allowed.

Check the rules on the others during the trial.

Practice hours matter in this business. Over the past two decades, fatal crashes involving a young driver fell 38%, according to a Governors Highway Safety Association report, and a learner who can move a lesson online instead of skipping it stays on track for the supervised hours their state requires.

Which driving school scheduling software suits a solo instructor, and which suits a school with several branches?

A solo instructor should try Setmore’s or Picktime’s free plan, or choose a tool with package tracking if bundles are needed from day one.

A school with many instructors and cars should compare Drive Scout with a flat plan. Schools with several branches should check per-location pricing.

Do these platforms take a commission on each booking?

No booking commission is listed on any of the seven. You pay the subscription plus the card fee from the payment provider. Square Appointments, for example, earns from its processing fee (2.9% plus 30 cents online on paid plans).

How much does driving school software cost?

It runs from free to $250 a month at the starting level. Free plans exist on Setmore, Square Appointments, SimplyBook.me, and Picktime. Drive Scout starts at $50 per user with five users.
