Rocket Money reviews: The 35% to 60% fee is replaced by a $15 plan on 2 November

On Free or Premium, Rocket Money takes 35% to 60% of your first year of savings when it lowers a bill. That holds until 2 November 2026.

The fee is "not refundable once charged," says Rocket Money. From 2 November, new bill negotiations need Premium+.

Rocket Money lists it at $15 a month plus tax, with no fee per request. Premium costs $7 to $14 a month, and you pick the amount.

Trustpilot shows a 3.9 score from 4,216 reviews, read on 12 October 2026. Some reviewers praise the support team.

One reviewer from August 2026 says they paid for a few years after the switch from Truebill.

They had not noticed, and they asked for a refund.

Quick answers

  • Free costs $0 a month. Premium costs $7 to $14 a month. Premium+ costs $15 a month plus tax.

  • Until 2 November 2026, bill negotiation on Free and Premium costs 35% to 60% of your first year of savings.

  • From 2 November, only Premium+ members can submit new bill negotiations, one at a time.

  • Rocket Money charges the fee 48 hours after your bill drops, unless you set up a payment plan first.

  • To cancel Premium, move the slider to $0 a month in Settings, then choose Cancel Subscription.

What changes for bill negotiation on 2 November 2026?

On 2 November 2026, bill negotiation becomes a Premium+ feature. Free and Premium members can no longer submit new requests.

  • Rocket Money's page says automatic renegotiations end on 1 November 2026. A later line on the same page says they go away from 2 November.

  • New requests need Premium+ from 2 November. Rocket Money offers no pay-per-request option.

  • A negotiation already in progress finishes under the current agreement. Rocket Money charges the fee as usual if it succeeds, and upgrading to Premium+ does not change that.

  • After you upgrade, each request you submit carries no added fee. You can have one in progress at a time.

  • If you do not upgrade, you keep the rest of your plan. You cannot submit new requests after 2 November.

Does Rocket Money charge a fee for bill negotiation?

Yes, on Free and Premium until 2 November 2026. Rocket Money charges 35% to 60% of your first year of savings, and only when a negotiation works.

A failed negotiation costs nothing.

  • Up front. You do not pay up front. Rocket Money emails the fee details after the negotiation succeeds.

  • When it is charged. Rocket Money charges the fee 48 hours after your bill is lowered, unless you set up a payment plan first.

  • Payment plan. You can pay weekly, every two weeks or monthly, and monthly plans run for up to 12 months. The success email holds the setup link. Set the plan up before the payment date in that email.

  • A refund. The fee is final once it is charged.

Say a bill drops by $20 a month. Over 12 months, that saves $240.

  • At 35%, the fee is $84.

  • At 60%, the fee is $144.

How long do negotiated savings last?

Most discounts last 12 months. Some savings are one-time credits, and others last 6, 12, or 24 months, depending on the provider.

These figures come from Rocket Money, which also states the 35% to 60% fee rule.

How much does Rocket Money cost?

Free costs $0 a month, Premium costs $7 to $14 a month, and Premium+ costs $15 a month plus tax.

These prices come from Rocket Money, on a page dated 19 January 2026. That page still lists the fee for Free and Premium.

The help page on the move to Premium+ gives the 2 November date.

Premium follows a pay what you think is fair model. You can change the amount at any time under Membership.

This table shows the price and the bill negotiation rule for each plan.

Plan

Price

Bill negotiation

Free

$0 a month

35% to 60% of first year savings until 2 November, then no new requests

Premium

$7 to $14 a month, you pick

35% to 60% of first year savings until 2 November, then no new requests

Premium+

$15 a month plus tax

No added fee, one request at a time

Free leaves out many features. Rocket Money's table lists subscription cancellation help, real-time sync, net worth tracking, account sharing, transaction notes, and export.

The same page gives two limits for Free budgets. Its table says up to 3, and its text says up to two custom category budgets.

Check the plan screen in the app before you rely on either number.

Is Premium+ worth $15 a month?

Premium+ costs $15 a month. Over 12 months, that is $180.

Premium at $7 a month costs $84 over 12 months. Premium at $14 a month costs $168.

So Premium+ costs $96 more than Premium at $7, and $12 more than Premium at $14. Against Free, it costs $180 more.

Before 2 November, you can pay the old fee or upgrade first. Premium+ wins when the fee would be higher than the extra cost.

Divide the extra cost by the fee rate to find the savings. $96 divided by 35% is about $274. $96 divided by 60% is $160.

Add up the first year of savings across every negotiation you plan to run. If the total is above the figure in the table, Premium+ costs less than paying the fee.

From 2 November, that choice ends. Premium+ is the only way to negotiate a bill. The question becomes whether you want bill negotiation at all. Premium+ also includes Rowan, an AI personal finance agent.

You text it about spending, budget check-ins, and help with subscriptions and bills. It adds access to apply for Rocket Money's High Yield Savings Account.

How do I cancel Rocket Money?

Open Settings, choose Membership, then choose Manage. Move the slider all the way left to $0 a month, then choose Cancel Subscription and follow the prompts.

These steps come from Rocket Money. On the website, Settings sits on the left side. In the app, it sits at the top left.

The page lists four facts about what happens next:

  • Cancellation starts at the end of your billing cycle. You keep Premium features until then.

  • Your Rocket Money account is not deleted.

  • Active bill negotiations stay in place.

  • Notifications and emails continue unless you change your alert settings.

The page does not say whether the fee on an active negotiation is still charged after you cancel Premium.

Keep the success email, which lists the fee details and the payment date.

Rocket Money also cancels subscriptions for its members. The cost page says it usually takes the team 2 to 10 days.

What do Rocket Money reviews and complaints show on Trustpilot?

Trustpilot shows a 3.9 score from 4,216 reviews, read on 12 October 2026. Trustpilot says it does not fact-check reviews, so each one is a reader's own account.

Two kinds of reviews show near the top of the page. Some thank support staff for fast help getting back into the app and fixing duplicate transactions.

One reviewer from 25 August 2026 says they paid for a few years after the move from Truebill. They then asked for a refund.

Trustpilot's own topic list marks customer service as an area where experiences vary.

Is Rocket Money legit and safe?

Rocket Money's security help page covers three points. It says Rocket Money never stores your bank login. It routes your login through Plaid and encrypts traffic between the app and its servers.

Rocket Money calls Plaid a trusted account connection provider. You can read the full page on Rocket Money.

A public complaint also exists. On 7 December 2022, the NYU Tech Law and Policy Clinic filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. It filed the complaint for the privacy group EPIC.

It alleges that Rocket Money's app design harms customers despite its privacy promises. It also alleges that Rocket Money used customers' credit reports to market its own services.

EPIC's page reports no response or ruling from the bureau, so no finding stands behind these claims.

Which Rocket Money plan fits you?

  • If you want to pay nothing: Free costs $0 a month. From 2 November, it no longer includes new bill negotiations.

  • If you have a bill to lower before 2 November: The fee is 35% to 60% of your first year of savings. Premium+ avoids it, at $15 a month plus tax. Use the table above with your own bill.

  • If you want bill negotiation after 2 November: Premium+ is the only way, and it takes one request at a time. Extra bills wait in line.

  • If you want the charges to stop: Set the slider to $0 a month and cancel in Settings. The change starts at the end of your billing cycle.

Rocket Money questions

Can I still use bill negotiation on Premium after 2 November?

No. New requests need Premium+ from 2 November. A request already in progress finishes under the current agreement.

What happens to my scheduled automatic renegotiation?

It will not happen. Rocket Money's page says you choose when to revisit the bill. Tell Rowan, or submit a bill negotiation request from inside the app.

How long does Rocket Money take to cancel a subscription for me?

Rocket Money says it usually takes the team 2 to 10 days.

Does cancelling Premium delete my Rocket Money account?

No. Cancelling Premium keeps your account, and active bill negotiations stay in place.

What is Rowan?

Rowan is Rocket Money's AI personal finance agent, and you text it like a friend who is good with money. It comes with Premium+.

Is Rocket Money worth it?

That depends on which paid features you will use. Free costs $0 a month, so you can look around before you pay.

Pay for Premium+ only if you want bill negotiation, and run the math above with your own bill first.

Pricing and features verified 12 October 2026 from Rocket Money's official pricing page and help pages.

The pricing page carries a date of 19 January 2026. The help page on Premium+ gives 2 November 2026 as the start date.
